Wednesday July 16, Santa Barbara California

The Farr 40 2014 West Coast Champioinship is underway with the first race just finishing at 2PM Pacific Time.

A full report will be released this evening, but during the race day cumulative results will be posted on Yacht Scoring.com here.

Three Australian entries arrive to join strong 15-boat fleet

John Demourkas has raced his Farr 40 all over the United States – from Newport to Key West on the East Coast, from Long Beach to San Francisco on the West Coast to Chicago in the Midwest. Demourkas has also competed all over the world in such countries as Australia, Denmark, Dominican Republic and Italy.

Having visited dozens of different venues since joining the class eight years ago, Demourkas is thrilled to get the chance to compete out of his home port of Santa Barbara.

"It's certainly going to be a special experience to do a Farr 40 regatta on the waters that I am so familiar with," said Demourkas, a longtime member of host Santa Barbara Yacht Club. "I know the club is very excited to be hosting the Farr 40 class for the first time. We are going to put our best foot forward to show the owners and crews some southern California hospitality."

A strong fleet of 15 boats is entered in the Farr 40 West Coast Championship, being held July 16-19. An influx of Australian entries will add spice to the fourth stop on the International Circuit, which culminates with the Rolex Big Boat Series off San Francisco in early September.

Plenty closes in style as skipper Alex Roepers posts a pair of bullets on final day to capture the California Cup in convincing fashion

Marina del Ray, Calif. (June 21, 2014) - Clinging to a one-point lead going into the final day of the California Cup, skipper Alex Roepers and his crew aboard Plenty closed out the competition in convincing fashion.

Roepers steered Plenty to victory in both races on Saturday and turned that narrow lead into a 12-point margin of victory, capturing the California Cup with a low score of 31. Flash Gordon 6, owned by Chicago architect Helmut Jahn, placed second with 43 points.

"It was a pretty incredible day. Things really went our way," Roepers said of finishing the four-day regatta with back-to-back bullets. "We got two good starts and had great boat speed going upwind. This team is extremely focused and cohesive. They came out today determined to get the job done and boy did they ever!"

Plenty leads Nightshift by one point and Flash Gordon 6 by seven with two races remaining

Marina del Ray, Calif. (June 20, 2014) - After another action-packed day on Santa Monica Bay, the California Cup for Farr 40 class is too close to call. Three boats will enter the fourth and final day in contention for the overall victory and it figures to be a battle royale among Plenty, Nightshift and Flash Gordon 6.

"In typical fashion for this class it all comes down to the last day," Farr 40 manager Geoff Stagg said. "It's really up for grabs and it's going to be all on. It really is amazing how closely contested every Farr 40 regatta is."

Plenty, the New York entry skippered by Alex Roepers, made a big move on Friday - winning two of three races to surge from third place to first in the overall standings. Back-to-back bullets to begin the day pushed Plenty past Flash Gordon 6 and Nightshift and the team survived a sixth in Race 9 to maintain the low score of 29 points.
